1. Obama didn't go about trying to save his party in this past election to insure he wins the next one.
Mid-term elections are about domestic issues; presidential elections are about foreign issues. Only on the former is there tangible dissatisfaction - on the latter, the Prez is doing just fine. I think his goal was to distance himself from what would be a very foreseeable loss and, in two years time, with Americans out of Iraq and Republicans blame-able in the House, finally turn to the American public and say, hey, I have accomplished a ton.
2. Prop 19. How many more Mexican gang murders before Californian moralists realize their prudishness is killing more people than its helping? Just at thought.
3. I disagree with his policies, but Obama's the man. Am I the only who thinks his words and actions betray a man of tangible decency, old-school virtue, humble intelligence, and radical self-awareness. I think many of his solutions are wrong, but as a dude . . . he's the man. Isn't this obvious? Am I crazy?

1 - While 2004 was about foreign, 2008 was decidedly not. Most Republicans were kicking themselves that Mitt Romney wasn't the candidate by the time October rolled around.
3 - I don't think he has almost any of those traits nor do his actions give that impression. His statements recently, if anything, give off the exact opposite, making it seem as if the American populace is just incapable of getting what it is he's trying to do.
I don't really know anything about politics, so I'll stick to #3.
I'm totally fascinated by this divide. Ezzie, you're not the only person I know/respect who has such a radically different evaluation of the president's personality. (Again - not talking about policy, but personality. In a sense - if you had an important life decision, and he was your friend, would you ask his advice.) And yet, I have failed to determine in anyway the dividing line between people like me and people like you - what precise viewpoint or assumption or way of thinking is the cause of this divide?
Sorry, I only read this now.
I don't think I would be his friend - I have a profound lack of trust in his thinking beyond short-term victory and public opinion in exchange for long-term good. He has done nothing to show me this is untrue, either.
Look at any move he's made in the past 10 years or so - everything was designed as a stepping stone, nothing virtuous throughout. There's no sense of honesty; no sense of old-school virtue; no sense of humility whatsoever; and no self-awareness.
The most recent examples are best: Rather than acknowledge that perhaps his approaches are not what people want, he is convinced that he simply must not have explained it well enough. That shows not only incredible ego (my way is best), but incredible lack of self-awareness. It's also hard to consider him decent when there's such a disdain for opinions with which he disagrees. Calling out the Supreme Court or dissing Fox News seem to be actions that go against decency, not with.
